Dear friends and family, all.
Thank you for the faithful support that you have contributed to the Manos de Ramon Foundation since its inception seven years ago. Be it through investments of time, funding, or encouragement, you have sustained our vision and daily efforts to save the lives of mothers and babies in low resource settings.
Through the extraordinary leadership of Dr. Wanny Roa in the Dominican Republic, and in memory of our mentor and original team builder, Dr. Ramon Murphy, we continue to advance maternal-infant health education in Latin America.
Highlights of our work in 2022 include:
1. Implementation of 24 in-person maternal-infant health training programs in seven different hospitals and training facilities in the Dominican Republic
*8 Helping Babies Breathe training programs
*3 Essential Care for Every Baby training programs
*7 combined Helping Babies Breathe/Essential Care for Every Baby trainings
*2 Bleeding After Birth training programs
*3 Preeclampsia/Eclampsia training programs
*1 Breastfeeding Orientation workshop
2. Training of more than 380 physicians, nurses, medical students, nursing students, EMTs, and community health workers in the Dominican Republic. (We have now trained over 1820 health care workers since 2015!)
3. Dr. Wanny Roa was awarded a National Education Citation by the Dominican government for her dedication to teaching nursing students through the Manos de RamonFoundation (May 2022).
4. We presented our work as a model for regional implementation of maternal health training programs for the G4 Alliance (the Global Alliance for Surgical, Obstetric, Trauma and Anesthesia Care) Latin American and Caribbean Working Group (May 2022) and again for the G4 Alliance International Standards and Guidelines Working Group (July 2022).
5. The World Health Organization recently released regional health data for the Dominican Republic that demonstrates a 42% decrease in neonatal mortality from 2014 to 2019 in the specific region of the country (Cibao Norte) where Manos de Ramon has been working to advance maternal-infant health training since 2015, as compared to 4-11% reductions in neonatal mortality in neighboring regions of the country. We are grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary progress.
Finally, please enjoy the beautiful attached video review of a year of Manos de Ramon workshops created for us by a group of our nursing students earlier this month.
For those who are able to donate, tax deductible donations can be made through our website via Paypal. If you are unable to donate (or already have—thank you, again!), we appreciate you supporting our work by spreading the word to anyone who might want to join our effort. 100% of donations go directly to maternal-newborn health education programs.
May this end of the year find you with peace, hope, and conviction to build a world in which we can all thrive together.
Best, Alex and the MDR leadership team www.manosderamonfoundation.com
