The Manos de Ramon (Ramon’s Hands) Foundation is named in honor of Dr. Ramon J.C. Murphy, a pediatrician and visionary global health advocate. Ramon has dedicated his life to caring for children in all social and geographical contexts and to educating others to address the needs of the world’s most vulnerable communities. Ramon Murphy is a model clinician, teacher, community advocate, and mentor. There are generations of pediatricians and global health trainees who credit him with our vision of the physician as advocate for a global community. His humanitarianism has assumed great breadth, shaping his diverse pediatrics practice in New York City, his founding of the Arnhold Global Health Institute at Mount Sinai, and marking the ever-growing number of public health initiatives and collaborations that have been born of Ramon’s leadership locally and worldwide. Ramon has spent his career leveraging the good in those around him—colleagues, students, and patients, alike—empowering each one to elevate shared social goals. And he has taught many of us to do the same. His spirit of humanism has touched our heads, our hearts, and our hands. May the fire continue to spread.
